Liquid Lenses and Modules

Arctic 316 ARCTIC 25H The Arctic 25H liquid lens is dedicated to applications requiring fast response time and high optical power. It is especially suited to industrial applications.
Arctic 316 ARCTIC 25HX-P07 The packaged Arctic Liquid Lens have been designed in order to make integration easier. Therefore, the variable focus capability can be integrated much faster in the customer’s design. The lens is built-in with an FPC cable and can be connected to a standard 1 mm pitch FPC connector – other FPC shapes/lengths available.

The Caspian M12-39N0-15.8 integrates a fixed lens module and an Arctic 39N0 variable focus liquid lens in an M12 receptacle (S-mount). The module is built-in with an FPC cable, and can be connected to a standard 1 mm pitch FPC connector. It can therefore be very easily integrated in a standard M12 sensor board. The module is compatible with imaging sensor formats up to 1/3" diagonal. This module can be driven by the same drivers as the Arctic 39N0 lens.
Caspian C-39N0-16 CASPIAN

The Caspian C-39N0-160 is an electronically focus controllable C-Mount objective, based on the Arctic 39N0 Liquid Lens. It incorporates all necessary electronic components to drive the Liquid Lens, and just needs a DC power supply; focus can be controlled through either an RS232, I²C, Analog or SPI input. With a 16 mm EFL, and compatible with 2/3’’ sensors, it is specifically designed for machine vision applications.

Caspian C-39N0-16 CASPIAN

This Caspian u-316-7.5 is based on an inverted and modified Caspian M12-316-7.5. Combined with the use of specific extension rings, either for C-Mount or M12, an unexpensive AutoFocus microscope can be built. The module is built-in with an FPC cable, and can be connected to a standard 1 mm pitch FPC connector. This module can be driven by the same drivers as the Arctic 316 lens.

 

Variable Focus Liquid Lens Driver boards

3-AFM Drivboard 3-AFM DrivBoard

This PCB dedicated to Arctic and Caspian families includes Maxim 14574, Rogers D388A and Supertex HV892 driver ICs (and all associated external components). It can be connected either to the VPS-3 and controlled through FocusLab software, or directly through an I²C input. The output can be connected to the FPC-A-3 with the compatible flex connector, or wires can be soldered directly on the board if the FPC cable is not used.
This board allows testing either driver by just plugging the FPC cable in the right connector.

Caspian C Com board Caspian C Com Board

This board is an USB to RS232-12 V / RS232-3.3 V / I²C / SPI converter. Connected to a PC with a USB cable on one hand, and to the Caspian C on the other hand, with a specific cable (delivered with the board), it allows to communicate directly with any of the Caspian C variations using FocusLab C. A potentiometer allows also controlling directly the Caspian C voltage without a computer.

USB-M Drivboard USB-M Drivboard

This board includes a Maxim driver, a 4 pin FPC connector for both Arctic/Caspian series, as well as a 8 pin FPC connector for the Visayan Series. It can be very easily driven through USB thanks to the Focuslab C software, delivered with the development kits.Its very small form factor enables to use this board directly into any PC-driven application with no extra hardware development.

Maxim Drivboard Maxim Drivboard

This board includes a Maxim driver and a 4 pin FPC connector for both Arctic/Caspian series. It has a 4 pin JST connector for DC power supply and for I²C communictaion. It has been designed for fast driving of the liquid lens directly from a microcontroller, an FPGA, a DSP, ... A cabled JST connector is supplied with the board.

 

Lens Holders and Cables

VHD-07 VHD-07

The VHD-07 is compatible with the Arctic 316 Liquid Lens. It is used in conjunction with the FPC-A-3, and can be connected directly to the 3-AF board or to the VPS-3 by using the VFC-1 cable. An M4 thread is located on the outer diameter, in order to fix the holder on a standard M4 mounting device. A 14mm diameter recess is located on the rear side of the holder, which eases integration with a compact objective lens.

VHD-06 VHD-06

The VHD-06 is compatible with the Arctic 39N0 Liquid Lens. It is used in conjunction with FPC-A-4 or FPC-A-5, and can be connected directly to the 3-AF board or to the VPS-3 by using the VFC-1 cable. An M4 thread is located on the outer diameter, in order to fix the holder on a standard M4 mounting device. A 14 mm diameter recess is located on the rear side of the holder, which eases integration with a compact objective lens.

VHC-1 Caspian Microscopy Set

This set is delivered with the Caspian Microscopy DK - it allows to achieve various magnifications, both for M12 and C-Mount cameras. It includes :

  • 1 microscope spacer
  • 1 set of M12 and C-Mount adapters allowing X2, X3 and X5 magnifications.
  • 1 locking nut for M12 adapters
VHC-1 VFC-1

This cable connects the FPC-A-x to the VPS-3.

 

Lens Flex Cables

FPC-A-3 FPC-A-3

This foldable flex is compatible with Arctic 316 lens, and can be connected to the 3-AFM board or to the VFC-1 cable. The flex tip is compatible with the FCI SFW4S-2ST_E9LF flex connector. Bent type.

FPC-A-4 FPC-A-4

This foldable flex is compatible with Arctic 39N0 and can be connected to the 3-AFM board or to the VFC-1 cable. The flex tip is identical to the FPC-A-3. Bent Type.

FPC-A-5 FPC-A-5

This foldable flex is compatible with Arctic 39N0, and can be connected to the 3-AFM board or to the VFC-1 cable. The flex tip is identical to the FPC-A-3. Straight type.

FPC-A-6 FPC-A-6

This foldable flex is compatible with Arctic 316, and can be connected to the 3-AFM board or to the VFC-1 cable. The flex tip is identical to the FPC-A-3. Bent type.

FPC-A-7 FPC-A-7

This foldable flex is compatible with Arctic 316, and can be connected to the 3-AFM board or to the VFC-1 cable. The flex tip is identical to the FPC-A-3. Straight type.

 

Power Supplies – VPS Series

VPS VPS-3 The VPS-3 power supply is the third generation Arctic power supply. Powered by a USB cable, it delivers the AC voltage required to drive the Arctic lens. The output voltage can be controlled either through the control knob, through the FocusLab software, or through a PWM analog input.

 

FocusLab Software

 FocusLab FocusLab

FocusLab allows to control both the VPS-3 and the 3-AFM board. The software controls and displays the output voltage, and displays also the power consumption of the driver. It can also change the sensitivity of the control knob in order to do fine adjustments on the Liquid Lens. When used with the 3-AFM board, the HEX code of the 3 driver ICs is also displayed.

A LabView application is also provided, in order to control the VPS-3 through a LabView specific program. A specific documented DLL allows integrating this in a C-Code program.

 FocusLab C FocusLab C

FocusLab C allows controlling the C-Mount lens through the Caspian C Com Board. The software controls the output vol tage on the Liquid Lens. A specific dialog box enables to send advanced commands to the C-Mount lens. A LabView VI is also provided to control the C-Mount lens through a LabView program. A specific documented DLL allows integrating this in a C-code program. Focuslab C allows also to control the USB-M Drivboard.
