Varioptic, the liquid lens company, today announced the opening of an office in Taipei, Taiwan, to extend its local presence in Asia.
The Taipei office will strengthen Varioptic’s ability to support its customers to develop new optics solutions for the camera phone market, and will also support Creative Sensor Inc. for the mass production of Varioptic’s autofocus liquid lenses. In the next phase, it will also become a nucleus for customer sales support activities.
The operations will be headed by Philippe Prat, Vice President of Production at Varioptic. Philippe Prat acquired a PhD in Mechanics from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA Lyon, France) in 1997. He started his career as a researcher in the lubrication for Space applications in France and later in Japan. He then joined Unaxis Displays (Now OC Oerlikon) in Switzerland as a project leader for the development of large area PECVD coating equipments used in the TFT-LCD displays industry. He then occupied in Taiwan, the position of Systems Engineering Manager and successively the position of Director of Engineering in Asia. Dr.-Eng. Philippe Prat brings in Varioptic a very broad technical experience and a profound knowledge of Asia, acquired through his 5 years presence in Japan and Taiwan and multiple projects in Korea and China.
